Early in the year 1960 in Greensboro, NC, four funny college students walked into an F.W. Woolworth Company store, bought some supplies and thought they should be able to be served at the dejeuner counter, which they knew was segregated. They sat at the counter until they were cart to leave as the store was closing. Other college campuses got the news, and black students fixed they would sit-in also. Six months later, after sit-ins had been growing much than and more popular, the same group of students was served at the very same dejeuner counter. Over a year later, sit-ins had attracted over 70,000 participants and generated over 3000 arrests. The sit-ins showed that disarming direct action could be useful in the contend of segregation.
